About the Project
The Senate needs to keep the public informed of the development of new laws, and the website is one of the main ways to do this. Our design was focused on improving the user experience, so the users would find what they needed without being overwhelmed by the amount of information available. We worked on the information architecture of the website and its optimization for search engines, aiming to make it easier for users to find what they were looking for.
The homepage displays recent news and quick access buttons to information of interest to citizens, lawyers, journalists, and other groups. Citizens may also contact their representatives through the website, and learn about law projects currently being discussed, and the voting results for past sessions.
Senate TV
The Chilean Senate also has a TV channel where some of the parliamentary discussions are broadcasted. They also have a newscast, interviews, and other cultural shows. AltaVoz worked with the Senate to create a website focused on video content, where users may watch the work done by the senators or other shows broadcast on the channel.
The live streaming signal uses Janus, a service that includes a special web player with which users may pause and rewind the live transmission. The player includes a button that allows people to download part of the live video, selecting a starting and finishing time. All of the Senate's content is considered public information, so anyone can download video clippings at any time.
For the main discussions and voting processes, the Senate also has a special streaming signal developed with Janus. In this signal, every time a Senator speaks, their intervention is marked on the video timeline. Users can find all interventions by a specific representative and watch them just by clicking on the senator's face.
